Job Description Summary The Assistant Director for Data Analytics and Research is principally responsible for all analytical and reporting duties held by the Office of Financial Aid and/or the Enrollment Management Division. Reporting to the Office of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director will develop datasets, perform analysis on student data and outcomes, produce data visualizations and written reports for stakeholders and leadership, and support the strategic aims of the Enrollment Management mission. The incumbent will likewise collaborate extensively with other data owners and reporting teams, including but not limited to Marketing & Communications, Institutional Research & Effectiveness, and Information Technology, to report student data to external entities. As a member of the Office of Financial Aid, the incumbent will adhere to the highest standard of data security, integrity, and privacy. Analytics: Builds and maintains data sets, manages data integrity and extractions, performs statistical analysis of quantitative (e.g., multivariate regression, time series analysis, clustering and classification modeling) and qualitative (e.g., thematic analysis, narrative analysis), and interprets results to answer complex research questions. Analytical duties to include aid modeling for all university student populations (e.g., first time undergraduates, transfers, non-traditional undergraduates, graduate and professional program students, etc.); enrollment melt, attrition and retention modeling; and post-cycle analysis of recruitment strategy effectiveness. Reporting: Under the supervision of the Director of Financial Aid, and in collaboration with other University reporting teams, including but not limited to Institutional Research, Marketing & Communications, Student Accounts, etc., compile and report all required student financial aid data elements. Primary responsibility to represent the Office of Financial Aid on such major reports as the Common Data Set, NCAA Division III , US News & World Report, Peterson’s and other external publications, as well as student aid specific reporting such as the Fiscal Operations and Application to Participate ( FISAP ), annual IPEDS survey, California state SB70, Gainful Employment and Financial Value Transparency (GE/ FVT ), and various Department of Defense/Veterans Administration surveys. Data visualization: Utilizing institutionally managed tools such as Cognos and PowerBI, create and maintain financial aid dashboards and reports for consumption by University staff, leadership, and Board of Trustees, to inform strategic decisions and workload planning for the University. Develop data visualizations to represent outcomes of data analysis, including presenting and/or disseminating those findings to University constituents and stakeholders. Research Initiatives: In collaboration with the Directors of Financial Aid and Admissions Operations, define problem spaces and research objectives, scope and design observational and experimental studies (e.g., analysis of student data, surveys, interviews, etc.) and develop, plan, implement and evaluate research operations protocol and data collection efforts, including the creation and administration of surveys, to ensure quality and efficiency of future reseach. Support strategic planning and the informed decision-making process. Staff Development: Maintain currency on methodologies and philosophies in use for Strategic Enrollment Management, as well as personal knowledge of statistical tools and reporting techniques in order to maximize effectiveness of research efforts. Assist in the cross-training of other staff members as appropriate, under the guidance of the Director of Financial Aid. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Prior experience in higher education within the enrollment management, student financial aid, or institutional research disciplines — 2 years Substantial knowledge and experience with data analytics and statistical methods — 2 years Prior experience in higher education is required. Knowledge of statistical methods and tools, such as SPSS , STATA , and Excel Intermediate proficiency with supportive programming languages, such as SQL , Python, and R Ability to analyze, compile, and present data and research in appropriate formats. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in computer science, data analytics, or social science-related field with an emphasis in research methodology is preferred. Prior experience in supervising the work of others, whether formally or informally defined.
